Le kyudo, you know ? More than a sports discipline, kyudo is a martial art that descends directly from the samurai who used it on the battlefield. More concretely, it is Japanese archery. But beware, the rules are somewhat different from Olympic archery, where only the results on the target count.

“It is a shot that is always carried out in a codified way, reveals Claude Luzethead of the kyudo club of Noisiel. Let’s say that the manner, accuracy, elegance and harmony put into practice during the approach phase of the shot often matter more than the result on the target”.

Kyudo is thus defined as an art and a universal way of personal realization through the ritualized practice of archery.

The biggest competition in Europe

To go even further in this aesthetic approach, this discipline takes place in Japanese attire. The usual outfit includes a short-sleeved white shirt (keikogi), very wide pleated pants (hakama), a wide belt (obi), specific white socks (tabi). Regarding the bow, “the most seasoned will prefer a bamboo bow of 2.30m on average”, informs Claude Luzet.

Thus, some of the best French and foreign representatives met on July 2 and 3 within the framework of a competition at Tournan-en-Briedubbed theOpen de France enteki. “This is a first for us, underlines Claude Luzet, also a 6th dan kyôshi. It is even one of the biggest competitions in Europe”.

For a weekend, the best archers in France and a dozen foreign archers were able to compete on a shooting range of 60 meters. “We would like to mark this event in time. Maybe not organize it every year, but at least every other year,” hopes Claude Luzet. Enough to allow this noble, little-known discipline to attract even more followers in France.
