Oktagon has another tournament behind it, this time at the sold-out Štvanice. There were some great matches to see and some of the results really make you think about what fights could be coming. What duels are offered?
Two title matches cleared up?
Macek thought about revenge
At Štvanice, Filip Macek introduced himself to the home fans, who started as part of the prelims card. He did not have an easy match, but the Czech fighter’s phenomenal performance made it an easy fight, at least at first glance.
Macek fought with Mikael Silander, who has experience from, for example, the Russian ACA, where he defeated Tomáš Deák, Macek’s former conqueror in the title match of the Octagon, among other things.
The Czech fighter claimed another title fight, which would already be his third. And the fact is, no one else deserves it. Macek would like to show that he can also handle big and important matches. Champion Jonas Magard is in favor of a rematch and nothing seems to stand in his way.
Legierski showed progress
Another fighter who claimed a title fight is Mateusz Legierski. The Pole became the first lightweight champion in 2020 when he defeated Miroslav Štrbák on points in the battle for the title. He then went to try his luck at KSW, where he won once and lost once.
In our country, however, the ground collapsed after him. It is clear from Legierský’s various statements that he had health problems that caused his defeat in KSW. But now he is fit and wants to become the lightweight king of the Octagon again. With Matouš Kohout, he performed an absolutely dominant and sovereign performance.
He allowed the Rooster practically nothing in his attitude. In addition, he showed that he is not afraid of fighting on the ground, where he was tested extensively in KSW. Basically, no one deserves a lightweight title fight more than him. So Losene Keita apparently learned the name of his first challenger.
Will we finally see a Czechoslovak battle of talents?
Roman Paulus fought the Polish talent Dawid Kareta in Štvanice and managed to win on points. This is a match that has been talked about quite a bit recently. Paulus could potentially face Czech talent Jakub Tichota.
Recently, Tichota has been particularly linked to a fight with Mat Sanikidz, with the idea that it would be an interim title fight while champion Ivan Buchinger is injured. However, Losene Keita would also like to try featherweight.
The reason why the battle between Tichota and Paulus did not work out for now was simple. Paulus should have been behind against Tichot so far. The fact is that even against Kareta, his performance was not dominant by any means, however, he scored a valuable scalp and the match with Tichota simply makes more and more sense.
Kertész vs. Velickovic 2? Why not?
Welterweight is extremely stomped on. Champion David Kozma is also very active and will have another defense in December. But if he manages it, what could await him next?
A rematch between Máté Kertész and Bojan Veličkovič is potentially offered, which would give one of the fighters another chance to defeat Kozma. Kertész has now defeated Kanchev, who, among other things, previously lost to Veličkovič.
Kanchev has proven to be a great fighter, so he can stir up the waters of the welterweight division. Nevertheless, Kertész proved his qualities, his maturity and complexity. He lost to Veličkovič quite controversially. He was close to a third match with Kozma. And he definitely deserves it.
The rematch with Veličković makes sense. But other names are also offered, namely the German one. David Zawada or Christian Eckerlin can also be interesting opponents in the future.
Will Vémola really test the heavyweight?
Karlos Vémola won the light heavyweight title when he beat Aleksandar Ilić as expected. To silence his critics and doubters, he offered to fight in the heavyweight division. He wants to prove that he is not afraid of anyone.
The fact is that he was indirectly challenged by Jeremy Kimball. Vémola has already hinted at a fight with Hatef Moeil. He previously wanted to fight Martin Buday, who is now in the UFC. Will we see the day when the Terminator actually steps up to heavyweight?
