Spain, first in the medal table of the European Youth Games of Paralympic sport

The Spanish team finished first in the medal table at the European Youth Paralympic Games, held in the Finnish town of Pajulahti, with 53 medals, 23 of them gold, 20 silver and 10 bronze.

The Spanish team, made up of 48 athletes with disabilities between the ages of 14 and 23 and six guides, participated in six of the sports on the official program (athletics, swimming, table tennis, boccia, judo and goalball) and led the medal table in one competition in which some thirty countries participated.

The sport that obtained the most metals for Spain was athletics, with the participation of the Liberty Team of Paralympic Promises of this sport. The young Spanish athletes won 38 medals, with Elena Latre as the most outstanding athlete, with her three gold medals in discus, weight and javelin.

In swimming, with the AXA Paralympic Promises Team, the harvest for the Spaniards was 7 medals, including the four for Enrique Alhambra.

The Verallia Team of Paralympic Table Tennis Promises won five metals, while the boccia team won two silvers and the blind judo team won one gold.

With its 53 medals, Spain ended up winning the medal table ahead of other powers such as France, which won 47 medals, and Italy, with 42.
