Successful FIBA ​​YDP Super Camp in Salt Lake City

MIAMI (United States) – FIBA ​​Americas in collaboration with the Real Salt Lake Basketball Academy hosted the Youth Development Program (YDP) Super Camp, between July 14 and 17 at the Academy facilities located in Salt Lake, Utah, United States.

Within the YDP agenda, different measurement activities were carried out for 30 young people, between boys and girls born between 2006 and 2007, from America (10 girls and 15 boys) from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic , Uruguay, Venezuela, Ecuador, Jamaica and Canada, and five other children from the FIBA ​​Youth and Development Program in Africa, who were invited.

The young prospects were chosen to be part of the Program that focuses on the identification, development and promotion of the best early-age athletes in the continent.

The camp was instructed by the coaches and staff of the Real Salt Lake Basketball Academy, along with FIBA’s world-class coaches from across the Americas, who were in charge of running the activities during the event.

The RSL also provided dorms and meals for athletes and coaches, as well as tours of the city of Utah, including visiting the stadium where the NBA Jazz play.

The YDP Program (for its acronym in English), which marked the official launch of the YDP with the inclusion of girls in this edition, seeks to detect and develop the national talents of the National Federations of the Americas and thus elevate the national teams. FIBA’s mission is to provide players with the tools they need to make an impact on their adult national teams, focusing on youth development and forward-looking basketball development.

In the beautiful facilities of Real Salt Lake Basketball Academy, the best campers were also highlighted. Mamadou Fall Thiam from Senegal (men’s MVP) and Manuella Fernandes Barros Alves from Brazil (women), who also stood out as the winner of the Camp’s three-point shooting tournament.

In addition, Kenneth Rodríguez (Puerto Rico), Jalen Le Don Pichardo (Dominican Republic), Diego Sulbarán (Venezuela), Alejandro Avilés (Puerto Rico) and Malik Diallo (Mali) were recognized, and among the girls Sol Depetris (Argentina), Alexia Araujo Dagba (Brazil), Dianne Crespo (Puerto Rico), Antonia Basualdo (Uruguay) and Camila De Pool (Puerto Rico).

Egypt’s Adam Elhalawany and Gabon’s Kanga Lendouga Emmanuel were recognized as the best athlete and pusher of the camp, respectively.

The YDP falls under one of the main precepts of FIBA ​​Americas, whose youth development program focuses on the following objectives:

  • Search and develop young elite players in the Americas in order for them to raise the quality of their national teams.
  • Establish a process to track and monitor young talent during their evolution and progress in the Americas region.
  • Work hand in hand with key stakeholders and national federations to identify talent.

Prior to this year’s Super Camp, seven YDP camps were held in the Americas. Players for the Super Camp were selected from previous YDP camps and competitions held in the region, as well as nominations from national federations.
