«Big Four» reunited
Novak Djokovic completes the dream quartet at the Laver Cup
The dream of every tennis fan comes true: Federer, Nadal, Murray and Djokovic play side by side in the same team. The Serb completes the “Big Four” at this year’s Laver Cup.
The «Big Four» are reunited! Roger Federer (40), Rafael Nadal (36), Andy Murray (35) and Novak Djokovic (35) will represent Team Europe at this year’s Lavercup (September 23-25).
The organizers announce on Friday morning that the Serb, who recently won his 21st Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, will also be part of Captain Björn Borg’s (66) team for the second time after 2018. “I am extremely happy that I can play again for Team Europe at the Laver Cup,” the 35-year-old is quoted as saying on the Laver Cup website.
Djokovic continues: “It’s the only competition where you play in a team with people who normally face you and joining Rafa, Roger and Andy – three of my biggest competitors – will be a truly unique moment in the history of our sport. »
18 years of pure dominance
Since Wimbledon 2003, 76 Grand Slam tournaments have taken place. One of the four tennis legends held the trophy in their hands 66 times – an unbelievable dominance. Between February 2, 2004 and February 27, 2022, one of them was always at the top of the world rankings. With age, all of them developed physical problems, which increasingly made their dominance crumble.

But now they are reunited, for the first and perhaps only time on the same team. Federer with Murray? Djokovic alongside Nadal? Or “Fedal” again? The combinations for the three upcoming doubles at the O2 arena in London are numerous. A spectacle is definitely guaranteed with the “Big Four” – and of course the two other team members who have not yet been determined. (che)
