Tennis is, above all, repetition | Sports

Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios had the outcome that many of us thought it would have. Despite scoring the first set Thanks to his devastating service, the Australian was not able to maintain the fighting spirit during the three hours that the match lasted. The turning point that diverted the initial course occurred when in the second set, with 5-3 for Djokovic, the player from Canberra had three balls of break to recover the lost serve, but let them escape.

From that moment we could already see his usual off-center temperament. She was talking all the time with the members of her box and maintaining that unconstructive attitude, especially to himself, until the end of the third set. He recovered in the fourth, but in the decisive moments he was unable to control his anxiety that, again, degenerated into constant rebukes to his team as if they were to blame for the undesired paths the scoreboard was taking for him. .

The match lacked great brilliance, mainly because there were too many unplayed points. The lack of perseverance of the Australian, especially in regards to maintaining his aggressiveness, revealed the main problem that, in my opinion, gives off his game. He has a bad habit of hitting too many balls in any way, basically without paying attention and in bad position.

In today’s tennis, due to the speed at which the ball goes, there is no choice but to look for a good position to have good control. The great players (Federer, Djokovic, Rafael) measure their steps well, seek a good position and, from there, try to hit a good shot and increase the chances of victory. Kyrgios, with his messy way of understanding the game, is handicapped not so much by what he does with the ball, but by the way he wants to do it. It is very difficult for him to achieve the continuity that requires scoring points. Tennis is a sport of repetition, rather than spectacularity.

We see him, on too many occasions, hit backhands without properly adjusting the steps and forehands in which he does not make the slightest effort to bend his knees and gain strength with his legs. He carries the unhelpful inertia of executing many of his shots intuitively. When the moments of tension arrive, and it is understood that in a Wimbledon final there will be, that is when more mistakes than normal begin to happen.

This unorthodox way of playing, which in some other sport could not only be feasible but also give positive results, in tennis (where each point, no matter how colorful or creative it is, is worth the same) is of little use. It is clear that he has great conditions because he is capable of doing things that few manage to do, but it is also evident that his rankingthe 40th at present, responds to the game he has.

Instead, Novak Djokovic, without the need to display his most dazzling game, once again showed that he is a great champion. Everything that his opponent was not willing to do, is just what he normally does. He is a serious player, who always shows the best predisposition to face the most unfavorable moments. As I mentioned in the previous article, we knew that he would not fail. The only chance for him to lose his chance to win his 21st Grand Slam was if Kyrgios had the ability to play his best tennis and, above all, surprised us with the temper to keep it up all the time.

With this new victory at Wimbledon, the Serbian player continues to enhance his sports figure and stalk Rafael in the race to be the greatest winner of all time.
