On July 22, the City of Rimouski proceeded to the official inauguration of the brand new archery field at the Adhémar-St-Laurent community center, whose construction was completed in the previous weeks.

It was in the company of elected officials, collaborators, athletes as well as guests that the very first demonstrations took place, followed by the cutting of the inaugural ribbon. Guy Caron, Mayor of Rimouski, commented: “Today is a very special day, as we proudly inaugurate a new official competition site, one year away, almost to the day, from the launch of the 57th Final of the Quebec Games, scheduled for July 21 to 29, 2023. I would like to highlight the exemplary work of our internal teams who have invested many hours of work in the realization of this archery field. These high quality facilities now allow us to host competitions at the provincial and national levels. »

Isabelle Charest, Minister for Education and Minister responsible for the Status of Women, adds: “It is with pride that we support the Quebec Games each year and this new archery field in Rimouski, ready on time for the Games Final, is further concrete proof that recreation and sport are a priority for our government. I wish excellent competitions to all the young athletes and their entourage and thank you to the organizers, officials and volunteers, without whom none of this would be possible. »

Completion of this project represents an investment of $417,000, including $200,000 from the Infrastructure Support Program for the Quebec Games of the Ministère de l’Éducation. The archery field construction work was entirely carried out by the Ville de Rimouski team, with the support of the engineering firm TR3E – Experts conseil inc. The improvements include: the installation of fences with removable safety nets; land leveling; the construction of a service building; the construction of 10 double lanes with shooting distances of 30 meters, 50 meters and 70 meters; the installation of 12 concentric targets, manufactured by the local firm Allégiance Archerie; the installation of a protective mound 5 meters high at the bottom of the field.

On Saturday, August 13, the Club des Archers de Rimouski inc. invites the public to an opening event where several activities are planned for all ages: introduction to archery, skills competition, games, kiosks, participation prizes, and much more. This activity will allow citizens to discover archery, visit the new facilities and try out the discipline using the equipment available on site for the occasion. The City of Rimouski invites archery enthusiasts to take full advantage of these new sports facilities.
