Havana.- PRESIDENT of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, Renzo Manyari Velazco, arrived in this capital this Thursday with the aim of giving continuity to the collaboration agreement signed with his Cuban counterpart during the I Junior Pan American Games in Cali 2021.
Upon his arrival at the José Martí International Airport, he was received by his counterpart on the island, Roberto León Richards, the president of Inder, Osvaldo Vento Montiller, and the director of international relations of the sports organization, Gisleydi Sosa.
Speaking to the press, Manyari expressed that this working visit has the purpose of strengthening relations between both National Olympic Committees and, above all, learning. We are also going to share with great pride the delivery of the Seventh Dan to Carlos Zegarra Presser, president of the Pan American Judo Confederation and whom I am honored to call a friend and to be able to share that joy with the Cuban people, Manyari said.
Referring to the agreement signed with the Cuban Olympic Committee, he emphasized that it will serve to lay the new foundations for the development of Peruvian sports at the national level. He also considered it very important to be able to collaborate closely with the Cuban people, who have offered the greatest glories to the international Olympic movement.
Richards highlighted the brilliant result achieved in the sports walk by the Peruvian Kimberly García during the 2022 Oregon World Athletics Championships, whose performance Manyari considered shared with Cuba, since the girl was discovered by one of the West Indian coaches present in the sister nation.
“The signing of the bilateral agreement last December, during the Cali 2021 Junior Pan American Games, served to reopen an agreement signed years ago and that now reinforces the work, which will be very positive for both parties,” said Richards. Manyari will carry out a program of activities that includes conversations with the highest authorities of Cuban sports and tours of institutions in the sector, where he will learn about the development of high performance and work at the base.
