Tourism: our top 13 must-see places in the Bresle Valley

The Bresle Valleyboth side Somme what Seine-Maritime, conceals historical, cultural, natural or leisure sites. While the summer holidays began ten days ago, here is our selection of the must-see sites.

Beauchamps

1. Le domain of the Lieu-Dieuat Beauchampsin the Somme, was created in 1986 on the foundations of an old Cistercian abbey dating from the 16th century. Tourism and leisure site par excellence, it extends over a hundred hectares. There is an equestrian center, lakes, and unusual accommodation (caravans, houses on the water, etc.). From May to October, at least four times a week, the release of the horses around 5:15 p.m. in the pastures is a real spectacle. Information on 03 22 30 92 23.

2. The plot of the mills offers a haven of peace. Just renovated, this space on the edge of Bresle has an artificial beach in an idyllic setting. Picnic tables, a pump track, a city-stadium, a playground for children and weight machines are among the facilities on site.

Bazinval

3. The Dubos Chapelknown as the Wolf Chapel, was erected in 1790 by Pierre Dubos in Bazinvalin Seine-Maritime. At the time, as he was walking home, the local notable was attacked by a pack of hungry wolves, so he left it to God, and miraculously escaped. He then decides to build a chapel on the very spot of his misadventure. Since 1997, a pilgrimage and an open-air mass have been organized there every August 14, the eve of the Assumption.

Blangy-sur-Bresle

4. L’Church of Our Lady of Deliverance has three naves from the 13th and 16th century. It can be visited freely all year round. A booklet is available at the community tourist office at Blangy-sur-Bresle (Seine-Maritime).

5. The website of Fountain Manor, built in 1525, houses the glass museum, which has just been renovated and has two new permanent collections (Glass and the colonial world, and contemporary space), but also the reconstruction of a Merovingian village, the reproduction of a carcahoux (a traditional hut in the shape of a tepee which was used by loggers to take a break from the rain), as well as an arboretum with 26 species of trees and 70 listed plants. 6. Le domain of Penthievre is located on an island of 9 hectares surrounded by the Bresle. There is a 17th century castle and a water mill dating from the 12th century and renovated in the 19th century. Guided tours of the exteriors are possible all year round. Since September 2020, it is also possible to discover the National Collections of Crystal and Tableware Arts. Paid visits, by reservation on 06 69 09 80 55.

7. L’atelier Bresle art glass was created in 1980 at 23, route d’Eu, by Fernando Dei Rossi. Since 1994, his son Luigi, also a glass blower, has taken the helm. All summer long, it opens its exhibition-sale space to the public and offers free demonstrations. Information on 06 80 75 23 51.

Bouttencourt

8. The chapel located rue du Tréport in Bouttencourt (Sum) is a replica of the grotto of Lourdes. It would have been built in the 1960s by Madame Dubot in memory of the parking of the populations of Blangy-sur-Bresle and Bouttencourt on August 17, 1944.

9. Le domain of Sery consists of a centuries-old abbey and a modern leisure area, including mobile homes and a floating swimming pool!

Gamaches

10. The Leisure Center of Gamaches (Somme) is an essential site for nature lovers. Located at the Sainte-Marguerite pond (the only one with such a structure in the Valley), it allows the practice of various nautical activities (pedal boat, canoe, stand up paddle …) and nature (mountain biking, archery bow…). 11. L’Church of St. Peter and St. Paul was built in the 13th century. It contains several works of art and protected furniture. It is the only building in the town classified (since 1862) under the Historical monuments.

Guerville

12. L’historical hiking route V1 extends over the entire territory of the Community of Communes Aumale Blangy-sur-Bresle with 19 launch sites. Guerville (Seine-Maritime) is one of the most visited with its reconstruction of a launch base at the post of Montauban, on the edge of the eu forest. Since the spring of 2022, the V1 site in the hamlet of Beaulieu, in Campneuseville (Seine-Maritime), has for its part been transformed into escape game. Note that guided tours are possible on these two sites (which are also freely accessible). A free digital app is also available for download.

Nesle Normandie

13. Le Romesnil Castlea hamlet of Nesle Normandie (Seine-Maritime), is the former hunting lodge of the grandson of Louis XIV. It became a glass factory until 1978, and is now the property of a passionate individual, René Brice. The castle can be visited in July and August every day from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is chargeable. Information on 07 68 83 66 79.
