The Cuban women’s team basketball team defeated Jamaica 85-32 in its second appearance in the Caribbean Championship that takes place in the sports city of Havana.
The girls led by Márgaro Pedroso came out as favorites and won the first quarter 25-9, against a Jamaican team with many difficulties in ball circulation. Cuba did the homework and hand in hand with Nahomis Vargas (11 cards) built their lead.
In the second quarter, the Cubans kept the game under control and won 18-8, led this time by Anisleidys Galindo who reached 13 points. In this way, they went to rest 17-43.
The team from the Greater Antilles improved collectively in its effectiveness in the face of the basket from long distance and the free throw line, and was less anxious than in the debut.
Jamaica did not have a quarter of more than ten points and its worst moment of the challenge was the third period in which it fell 17-6. Likewise, they also gave in in the last ten minutes (25-9) against a Cuban team that did not have to make much of an effort.
Anisleidys Galindo was the most outstanding offensive player for Cuba with 15 boards, while Isabela Jourdain shone with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds, to which she added four assists to be the most effective player in the clash with 25 credits.
Tomorrow the actions will continue in the coliseum with the clashes Bahamas-Jamaica and Cuba-Dominican Republic.
