Dhe second team of the Schwechater Blue Bats was able to celebrate twice at the end of the season.
The state league team of the Schwechater Blue Bats 2 got two wins in Freudenau.
In the first game against second-placed Stock City Cubs 2, the Bats quickly scored and pulled away with hard hitting offense.
Pitcher Felix Stephan threw a solid game on the mound. The Cubs were able to get close to the Bats in the last inning, but relief pitcher Stefan Mathes didn’t allow much that day either and ended the game 10:6 for the Bats.
The game was closer against the Vienna Metrostars 3. After runs from both teams in the first inning, it looked like a tight game for a long time. The Bats stumbled on offense against the experienced starting pitcher and the Metro starts themselves had a hard time against Fabian Fallbacher, the Bats 2’s left-handed pitcher.
Only after a pitcher change by the Metrostars did the Bats really get going on offense. In the last inning, the Metro starts got the upper hand again. However, closer Osvaldo Reynoso kept his nerve and the Bats 2 clinched the 9-5 win.
The Blue Bats 2 end the regular season with nine wins and five losses.
It continues on September 3rd in the playoffs against the Vienna Lawnmowers in Schrems. The Bundesliga team meets Vienna Wanderers in the playoff on August 20th.
