Celtic equal Scottish record for biggest win, v Dundee United (9-0)

Like Liverpool against Bournemouth (9-0) in the Premier League on Saturday, Celtic Glasgow equaled the record for most success in the Scottish Premier League on Sunday by beating Dundee United at home with the same score. Qualified for the Champions League, in which they will begin by welcoming the defending champion, Real Madrid, on September 7, the “Bhoys” prance at the top of the standings with 5 wins in 5 days.

They took control of the match with a hat-trick from the Japanese Kyogo Furuhashi (15th, 40th, 45th + 2), while the Portuguese Jota also found the fault before the break (4-0, 45th + 6). In the second half, it was the Israeli Liel Abada who added a hat-trick (5-0 in the 50th, 7-0 in the 59th, 8-0 in the 77th), Josip Juranovic (6-0, 55th) and Carl Stafelt (9-0, 81st) increased the score.

Nine of the twelve highest scores

Celtic was already the record holder with success, at home this time against Aberdeen in 2010. Nine of the twelve highest scores in the Scottish Premier League, created in 1998, are also in the hands of Celtic.

The biggest score in the history of the Scottish championship, all times combined, an 11-0 in 1895 had been achieved by … Celtic, against Dundee, already. In England, Liverpool shares the record with Manchester United who succeeded twice, against Ispwich in 1995 and Southampton in 2021, and with Leicester who also beat Southampton, but at home, in 2019.
