Duchess of Wessex captures Commonwealth Games weightlifters

The Duchess of Wessex has been busy shooting and filming the weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. That can be seen on Monday on the Twitter and Instagram account of the British royal family.

In addition to a set of photos of three contestants, Sophie captured how Olympic gold winner Maude Charron set a new record in Commonwealth Games history. The weightlifter lifted up to 130 kilos.

Before watching the weightlifters, Prince Edward and his wife attended the boxing and badminton events. Footage shows the Duke of Wessex watching a boxing match intently. The royal family called the badminton match “exciting”. “Congratulations Malaysia and well played England,” reads a message from the British royals.

The Commonwealth Games were opened Thursday night by Edward’s brother Prince Charles, who read a special message from their mother highlighting the importance of the event. The Commonwealth Games were first held in 1930. Since then, the sporting event has taken place every four years. The Commonwealth Games were canceled in 1942 and 1946.
