European Triathlon Championships: Léo Bergère in gold, historic hat-trick for the French

This Saturday, August 13, 2022 will go down as a historic day for French triathlon. In Munich during the European Championships, (Olympic format) the French team achieved a resounding hat-trick. Imperial, Léo Bergère won the gold medal in 1h41′09′’. The 26-year-old triathlete, licensed at Saint-Jean-de-Monts Vendée Triathlon, won the first major individual title of his career. His record already included two world champion titles in the mixed relay in 2019 and 2020.

Starting well in the swim, the French took the lead during the 40 km of cycling and never let go. After accelerating at the sixth kilometer of the race, Léo Bergère gave way to his compatriots and flew to victory. He beat Pierre Le Corre, crowned in 2018, who finished 8′ away. Dorian Coninx snatched the bronze in the last meters after a mano a mano with the Hungarian Csongor Lehmann.
