Jaida Lee makes Canada Games history

Lee pitched for an inning and a third for Newfoundland and Labrador in a 17-7 loss to Alberta in the first of several games on the day.

The 16-year-old from the capital city of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Lee didn’t concede a run in the fourth inning. Alberta reacted in the fifth, however, with a six-point outburst that put the game out of reach.

Lee had been the flag bearer for Newfoundland and Labrador at the opening ceremonies of the Games.

The ball she threw will be on display at the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in St. Mary’s, Ontario.

In other competitions on Monday, Quebec collected four medals, including two gold. Mathis Beaulieu won the sprint triathlon event in 57 min 43 s, all in difficult weather conditions.

The 18-year-old from Quebec City, Beaulieu won his fourth straight gold medal.

In the men’s mountain bike – cross-country event, brothers Maxime and Charles-Antoine Saint-Onge took the first two places.

Sixteen-year-old Maxime stopped the clock in 1:04:15, two seconds ahead of his five-year-old brother.

In the women’s section of this competition, Marie-Fay St-Onge placed 3rd in 1:23:59. Marie-Fay is the sister of Maxime and Charles-Antoine.
