Hiyori Koga, the eldest daughter of Toshihiko Koga, who won the gold medal in the 71kg judo class at the Barcelona Olympics and passed away in 2021.
I followed her, who is currently the captain of the judo club at the university.
A beloved daughter who spent a lot of time with her father, Toshihiko
Hiyori belongs to the women’s judo club of “IPU/Pacific Rim University” in Okayama Prefecture.(*Broadcast in August 2022)。
In fact, since the club was founded in 2007, my father, Toshihiko, has been the general manager of the club.
Against this background, Hiyori says she spent a lot of time with her father, especially among her siblings.
It seems that Toshihiko was a “normal father” at home. Looking back on his past, he said, “When I was teaching, I didn’t feel the pressure of winning (a gold medal). I never felt like I was an Olympic athlete, either on the tatami mats or in my personal life.”
After losing her father, Hiyori says she has been supported by the team’s coach and friends. As a result of practicing hard with the desire to “give back” to the people around me, in the 2022 “All Japan Student Judo Championship Tournament”, I achieved a good result in the best 4 out of 38 schools in the team competition.
In the program, Hiyori talked about her thoughts and aspirations for her father, saying, “I think (my father) will be happy if I do my best, so I want to leave behind the results and finish it.” I look forward to seeing her further success in the future.
“Birthday”, which is broadcast every Saturday on TBS, focuses on and introduces various “unforgettable and important days engraved in life”.
