Fanny Schlögl showed her great talent on the world stage and won U18 World Championship silver.

The year 2022 is becoming more and more of a rollercoaster ride of emotions for Fanny Schlögl. After the magnificent victories in this year’s European Cup in Lignano (Italy) and Bielsko-Biela (Poland), the competitive athlete traveled to the European Championships with great expectations. In the run-up to the European Championships, the exceptional athlete suffered a knee injury and was eliminated early in the course of the tournament.

Despite the disappointing European Championship, Schlögl was called up by the Austrian FA for her potential for the U18 World Cup in Sarajevo, Bosnia, a decision that ultimately paid off.

Schlögl started the tournament with a bye, a circumstance that does not always have to be an advantage. “It’s always difficult when the opponent is already fighting a fight and you have to do a cold start yourself,” says father Andreas Schlögl. The judo ace was not affected by this and catapulted her way into the final with impressive victories against strong opponents from Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Slovenia and Egypt with ippon victories, where the Turkish fighter Sinem Oruc was waiting for Schlögl. In the final, the national fighter finally had to admit defeat, Schlögl crowned her sensational performance with the silver medal. National coach Martin Grafl was enthusiastic about Schlögl’s performance. “Fanny is one of the world’s best in her age group, as she impressively proved again today. She won silver, not lost gold.”
