Youth basketball league participants in Los Angeles are still required to wear masks while on the court more than two years into the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Los Angeles Uprising, an organization that rejects “restrictions and mandates,” tweeted an image from a Saturday youth basketball game showing participants wearing masks on the court.
The youth basketball game was held at the Mar Vista Recreation Center.
A flyer from the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks Summer Basketball League states that “a face mask is required at all times.”

Additionally, participants 12 years of age and older must present proof of vaccination against COVID-19 before entering any indoor park facility.
The founder of the Los Angeles Rising, who chose to remain anonymous, told Fox News Digital that the policy is absurd.
“Obviously, at this point, there are no more excuses. You know, everyone has access to vaccines. Everyone can do it. Everyone is caught up in this. At this point, it’s completely off the mark,” the LA Uprising founder said.

“And no one in this city has ever stood up for the kids or said, ‘Hey, let’s make sure we line this up for them.’ Let’s make sure teens and kids this late summer and fall don’t have to deal with restrictions if they don’t have to. But no one ever speaks up for children, certainly outside of public health and certainly not in the city. They have never done that. They have never taken care of the children. Never,” he added.
Jonathan Zachreson, founder of Reopen California Schools, told Fox News Digital that he thinks it’s dangerous for children to wear masks while engaging in physical activity.

“I would say that it is dangerous to have children in physical activity, excessive exertion like basketball, wearing masks. And frankly, we talked about choosing masks and allowing people to make decisions for themselves and their families,” she said.
