The best representative of the maple leaf in the world ranking, she who is in fifth place, did not have to wait to play her first shot of the first round before receiving her first applause from the crowd. Even during her practice rounds, many amateurs followed her.

“It’s cool to feel a bit like Tiger [Woods] for once”, she launched at the microphone of TSN.

Although she hasn’t taken part in this event for a few years, due to the pandemic which forced the cancellation of the tournament, Henderson knows very well what it takes to win, she who triumphed in 2018. She addresses besides the competitions on Canadian soil slightly differently.

“There is certainly a balancing act to be achieved between enjoying it and staying focused, admitted the main interested party at a press conference on Tuesday. I still have a job to do and I will do my best. At the same time, I try to smile a little and enjoy the incredible opportunity.

Henderson is on a real little cloud these days, she was even announced as one of the athletes who will have their own playable character in the next edition of the golf video game PGA Tour 2K23 Tiger Woods Edition. “As an athlete, you dream of being in a video game. It’s the pinnacle.”

A former hockey goaltender, Henderson last donned her uniform when she was 14, now 24.

She continues to skate from time to time, however, having last laced up a pair of skates on a frozen lake in 2021.

For the moment of a week, she will find a snippet of hockey at 17e hole of the Ottawa Hunt course, where boards identical to those on the edge of the ice, in the arenas, will be erected. The idea was born at the RBC Canadian Open, on the PGA side. Henderson has already chosen the team she will represent when she crosses the tee box of this hole.

“I took my sweater out of [Sénateurs d’Ottawa]. I’m ready, explained Henderson. It’s a really cool idea. It’s funny. It allows you to take something quite unique seen at the RBC Canadian Open and bring it to the women’s side. I actually played a practice hole there. [mardi] morning and the supporters were banging heavily on the tapes. It’s going to be very noisy, but it reminds me of when I played hockey.
