Octagon champion not delivering on his promises? It’s sad for me, promoter Novotný admits

Oktagon planned two title battles for September, when the OKTAGON 35 tournament will be held in Brno. But in the end, only one, which was announced earlier, will take place. Promoter Ondřej Novotný revealed why the second one didn’t come out.

At the end of July, a great tournament took place in Štvanice. The performance of the evening was demonstrated by Filip Macek, who claimed the title match. And quite rightly so.

Macek consistently performs great, however, he fails in important matches and works on it. He believes that the rematch with champion Jonas Magard will be about something else.

It was expected that their match could take place in September at the tournament in Brno, but the Czech fighter got injured. “The injury is such that it would probably be possible to wrestle with it, but Filip does not want to enter the title match with it,” expressed Ondřej Novotný in the MMA Letem světem podcast.

Champion Magard thus received another offer. He could defend against another opponent. However, Novotný revealed that he refused the match. “It’s a surprise for me, because we constantly hear that anyone and anywhere, especially to wrestle. But that didn’t happen at the moment.” added the Octagon promoter.

Novotný also pointed out that the title battle must correspond to the title qualities. He also admitted that it is sad for him that the match will not take place. He would like to revive the bantamweight division. In addition to the organization, there must be two more fighters for this, which has not happened now.

Macek suggested to the champion that the match could be postponed by a month. Thus, it could happen in Frankfurt, Germany. Magard likes that. According to him, at least it would be close to home.

And who was actually offered to Magard? Apparently the Brazilian Felipe Lima who challenged him. He has a record of 11 wins and 1 loss. He lost only his first match, since then he is riding a wave of 11 victories.
