The NBA Mexico Games are back: San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat will play a Regular Phase match in CDMX

The NBA y Zignia announced this Wednesday that the San Antonio Spursfive-time NBA champions, and Miami Heat, three times champions, will play a Regular Phase game at Arena CDMX on Saturday, December 17, marking the first NBA Mexico City Game since 2019 and the 31st league game in Mexico overall, more than any country outside the United States and Canada. The NBA and Zignia will continue to collaborate on future NBA initiatives in Mexico for years to come.

The Spurs are led by the five-time NBA champion Gregg Popovichwho during the 2021-22 season became the winningest coach in NBA history, and currently feature 2020 Olympic gold medalist Keldon Johnson, 2022 No. 9 overall pick Jeremy Sochan, and No. 12 overall pick for 2021 Joshua Primo.

The Heat, meanwhile, is commanded by Erik Spoelstrawho has led the franchise to two NBA championships, and currently boasts six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler, 2020 All-Star and three-time All-Defensive Second Team member Bam Adebayo, and Sixth Man of the Year 2021-2022, Tyler Herro.

Who will televise the NBA Mexico City Game between Spurs and Heat?

The NBA Mexico City Game 2022 will be broadcast live in Mexico through ESPN, TUDN and NBA League Pass, the league’s premium live match subscription service. The game will reach fans in more than 200 countries and territories around the world through television, digital and social media.

Prior to the game, the league and its partners will also host interactive fan events and NBA Cares community outreach initiatives. The match and surrounding events will be supported by a list of marketing and merchandise partners, including AT&T, Gatorade, Hennessy, Nike, SAP and Tissot, with additional partners to be announced in the coming months.

The history of the NBA Mexico Games

The Spurs debuted in Mexico in October 1994 with two pre-season games at the Palacio de los Deportes. In total, the Spurs have played six games in Mexico, most recently a 121-119 overtime victory against the Phoenix Suns as part of the 2019 NBA Mexico City Games.

The matchup will mark the Heat’s second game in Mexico, after defeating the Brooklyn Nets 101-89 as part of the 2017 NBA Mexico City Games.

The NBA Mexico City Game 2022 will also mark the 30th anniversary of the first game of the league in the countrywhich featured the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks playing a preseason game at the Palacio de los Deportes in October 1992. In all, 22 NBA teams have played preseason and regular season games in Mexico.
