Striking: Remco Evenepoel rode the team time trial with a special helmet in which a kind of black balaclava was attached. It concerns the S-Works TT 5, cost price 350 euros.
Evenepoel and Asgreen spent many hours in the wind tunnel developing the helmet. “The helmet is built around an integrated aero head sock, which compresses the rider’s ears and hair for optimal aerodynamics,” reports Specialized. According to the manufacturer, the Evenepoel would save 26 seconds in a time trial of 40 kilometers. “If you see the individual time trial in Alicante, you will notice that in my case that helmet is really a lot faster than the previous one. But you still have to wait a good week for that,” Evenepoel promised on Friday. In the Tour, some riders of the team also wore such a balaclava helmet, but Lampaert, who won the opening time trial, did not use it. (md)
