Rumors continue to emerge around the Los Angeles Lakers’ interest in keeping Kyrie Irving’s contract, who would be their biggest target in the 2022 NBA market. Although negotiations with the Brooklyn Nets would be stalled, the idea of a mega change that include Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis has taken hold.
The viability of such a change has different considerations, since it is not only about exchanging star duos, but also what it implies in economic terms. In the case of the Nets, Durant and Irving’s contracts for the 2022-23 season imply $81 million in salaries and on the Lakers’ side this figure rises to $85 million.

Both Kyrie Irving and Russell Westbrook are in the final year of their deals, while Kevin Durant and Anthony Davis have several years remaining on their most recent extensions. At least on paper, the situation of both teams is similar and the agreement would make sense.
From the sports point of view, for the Lakers it would be a bet with a lot of potential, since joining LeBron James with Irving and Durant seems the best scenario, thinking about next season. But the Nets may not be convinced by this agreement, since after Kevin Durant’s request and with the idea of letting Irving go, his intention would be to start a reconstruction.

Due to the weight of the contracts of these four players, several role players and a considerable number of first-round draft picks would surely be involved, making it one of the biggest changes in NBA history. .
This is a business that seems quite unlikely, but it makes some sense at least from an economic perspective.
