The Tour of Burgos seems to be the tour of the interns. Bastien Tronchon took his first victory yesterday on his 4th stage day, today it was Matevz Govekar who took off with the flowers.
The Slovenian was only added to the Bahrain Victorious roster on June 1. In the Tour of Burgos he got a taste of the work between the big boys for the first time.
Success came after a long breakaway with many other young promises. And one experienced hand: Pieter Serry (Quick Step – Alpha Vinyl). Although he is still looking for a first professional victory.
But Serry didn’t have the strong final shot like some of his fellow escapees. Govekar waited excellently for his moment and only rushed past Valentin Retailleau in the last few hectometers.
Pieter Serry eventually became 4th. Pavel Sivakov (Ineos Grenadiers) remains the leader in the standings, the naturalized Frenchman tries to secure his final win tomorrow on the final day.
