SC Paderborn managed to return to the top of the table with a lackluster but deserved 1-0 win over Magdeburg. The first pursuer is HSV after beating KSC.

SC Paderborn is increasingly becoming one of the promotion favorites in the 2nd Bundesliga. With a 1-0 (0-0) win over 1. FC Magdeburg, coach Lukas Kwasniok’s team regained the lead they had lost to Heidenheim the day before.

In front of 11,213 spectators in the Home Deluxe Arena, Marvin Pieringer (79th) ensured East Westphalia’s deserved victory. The fourth success in the fourth home game was favored by the yellow-red card for Magdeburg defender Jamie Lawrence (40th). “Concentrated, factual but with a certain power forward,” commented Coach Kwasniok on his team’s success at Sky.

HSV’s closest pursuers from Paderborn

One of Paderborn’s closest pursuers is Hamburger SV. The Hanseatic League came to a 1-0 (1-0) against Karlsruher SC in the evening and stopped the guests’ series of three wins in a row. Ludovit Reis (42nd) scored the decisive goal that put HSV in second place at least until Sunday.

In contrast, there is still frustration in the Bundesliga relegated SpVgg Greuther Fürth. In the 2: 2 (0: 1) against FC St. Pauli, a late goal by Connor Metcalfe (85th) cost the first win of the season. For the Fürth it was already the fourth draw in the seventh game. In front of 10,553 spectators, captain Branimir Hrgota (48th) initially equalized the deficit through Marcel Hartel (19th). Shortly thereafter, Paulis Jackson Irvine unluckily headed a cross from Tobias Raschl into his own goal (52′). Before the 2:2, Leart Paqarada shot a penalty kick awarded after video evidence to the lower edge of the crossbar (72nd).

There were no goals in the third duel on Saturday between Regensburg and Kiel. Thus, the guests missed the possible interim jump to third place. For Regensburg there was no turnaround after the last three defeats with 0:11 goals.

Paderborn’s victory puts pressure on the well-known Hamburger SV. Only with their own win this evening (8.30 p.m.) at home against Karlsruher SC do the North Germans remain within striking distance with a one-point deficit.
