The Class Bàsquet Sant Antoni gave this Sunday a sample of what it can be capable of this season. The Ibizan team beat Fibwi Palma 92-67, a block descended from the LEB Oro and with which they will meet this season in Silver. The pitiusos clearly won in the friendly played at the Pabellón de Sa Pedrera, which was attended by some 300 people. Both squads still have a lot to improve, but Portmany’s were more effective and in tune than the Majorcans.
Sant Antoni marked territory from the beginning, a 27-13 at the end of the first quarter that was a declaration of intent. More united than in previous friendlies, the block coached by Carles Flores completed an excellent ten minute start. The people of San Antonio, dressed in black this Sunday, continued to do their thing in the second act, despite the fact that Palma warned with a 0-7 start that tightened the score to 27-20. However, Jonats extinguished the reaction from Palma with a two plus one (30-20). Zurbriggen and Mollgaard joined the local party to open another important gap of 14 points (34-20). The visiting rebellion was losing strength again.
Baskets by Kovacevic and Zengotitabengoa (34-24) gave Palma some air, but Sant Antoni did not slow down and kept their rival at bay at all times. A triple by Carreño put the score at 47-31, a result with which the break was reached. There was a long game ahead, but the locals were showing themselves to be much better.
Sant Antoni put one more gear in the third quarter. Da Silva (with four points) and Omeragic (with two) spurred their team to a 20-point lead (53-33). Pau Tomàs, coach of Fibwi Palma, stopped the game with a time out to clarify the ideas of his players. Kovacevic was the one who understood things the most (he would finish the match with 25 points) and held his own, but Flores’s were willing to give us their arm to twist. The 65-46 at the end of the period said it all.
In the last quarter, Sant Antoni started strongly. Two consecutive triples by Jonats made it 71-46, against a desperate Palma. A basket of two by Haro established the 73-46. The party was completely broken. The Majorcans tried, but they didn’t have a day against Sant Antoni, who won the first Balearic derby of the season.
