Clément Sordet: “If I can finish top 5, that’s a big bonus”

11th in the Road to Mallorca four tournaments before the end of the season, Clément Sordet is in a very good position to return to the European top division. The Lyonnais even hopes to grab the first five final places.

Interview by Nathan CARDET, at Pont Royal

Planet Golf: How do you feel before this Hopps Open de Provence ?
Clement Sordet : Honestly, I’m a bit tired. It’s the end of the season, we’re not going badly. Afterwards, I feel a bit like home because I don’t live very far away, but I finished my move the last two days so I’m a little exhausted. Afterwards, I don’t have too many expectations either, I know that I’m in France, I’m not there putting too much pressure on myself, I’m going to continue doing what I’ve been doing since the beginning of the year and we’ll see.

What relationship do you have with this Pont Royal route?

I’ve never played a tournament on it. I came to play a few games several years ago but the course is great. It’s tight, you have to find the right starting lines and if it’s windy, it can be very tough. You really have to quickly mark the right areas, where you have to go or not and focus only on where you want to go because if you look at the danger all the time, it’s not crazy.

I was lucky enough to win a tournament at the start of the year which gave me a good start.

You are currently 11th on the Road, we imagine you are necessarily happy with this season…

There’s a very high level on the Challenge Tour… I feel like I’m having a very good season and I’m “only” 11th. It’s complicated to finish in this top 20. I was lucky enough to win a tournament at the start of the year which got me off to a good start, but the road is still long until the final where there are a lot of points. at stake… The objective is first to finish top 20, it’s almost done but if I can finish top 5, it’s a big bonus. That’s the goal. We can potentially play Dubai and Abu Dhabi at the start of the season, which are big tournaments on the DP World Tour. Afterwards, it’s not because we don’t play them that it’s dead but it can well start the season.

After four seasons on the DP World Tour, were you surprised at the level of the Challenge Tour?

Every year on the Challenge Tour the level increases. When I was there, I found that there was a very high level. For me, there are almost 40 or 50 players who can potentially win on the European Tour. So that proves that there is a very high level.
