This wasn’t the first time Yastremska has resigned in the face of looming defeat. In January, the 22-year-old gave up in the first round duel at the Australian Open with Madison Brengle at a score of 1: 6, 6: 0, 0: 5.
In 2018, there was a similar incident at the Mexican Open. At that time, Yastremska withdrew from her opponent Mónica Puig’s match point due to an ankle injury.
Overall, she gave up no fewer than six matches in her career, always with a clear deficit – four times even during what was probably the decisive game.
