Fedojudo greets María García’s choice for immortality in La Vega

SANTO DOMINGO. The executive committee of the Dominican Judo Federation (Fedojudo) welcomed the choice of former athlete María García for immortality in recognition of her record of service as a high-performance athlete.

Garcia, who was 19 times national champion, from 1997 to 2017, will be exalted to immortality this Sunday at the Vegan Athlete Temple of Fame ceremony.

“This exaltation of María García is a reward for the effort and dedication of an athlete who gave everything to proudly represent her country,” the members of the Fedojudo executive stated through an informative note.

The organization highlighted a large part of the achievements that García collected as a judo athlete, while pointing out that the athlete has continued to be linked to Fedojudo, offering her experience.

“More than a recognition, the exaltation of Garcia’s immortality is a distinction for judo, a formative sport that advocates respect,” said Gilberto Garcia, president of Fedojudo.

He recalled that María won nine International Championships for the country from 1999 to 2006, among which she cited gold at the 2001 Pan American Judo Championship in Venezuela, gold at the 2003 International Benito Juárez Mexico Adult Tournament, gold at the Pan American Judo Championship in Venezuela. Adult 2004, and was also the Pan-American monarch of Judo Puerto Rico Adult 2004, among others.

He indicated that the triumphs of the award-winning athlete were notorious at the level of the highest regional and continental competition such as the Central American and Caribbean Games and at the Pan American Games level.

She was the eight-time winner of the Central American and Caribbean Judo Championship from 1999 to 2005, as well as runner-up in the Central American Championships and team silver in Cartagena, Colombia 2006; She was a gold medalist in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico 2010, as well as silver in individual and bronze for team in Veracruz, Mexico 2014.

At the Pan American Games he won bronze in Santo Domingo 2003 and in Rio de Janeiro Brazil 2007, while in Toronto, Canada 2015 he achieved fifth place.

García participated in two consecutive Olympic Games: Beijing, China 2008, and London, England 2012.
