Arriving in Lille this summer to take over from Jocelyn Gourvennec, Paulo Fonseca is having a mixed start to the season. The Portuguese is still struggling to advance his training despite a nice recruitment.
This summer, LOSC decided to make a new start with the arrival of Paulo Fonseca. The former Roma coach has a lot of work to do with a still young northern team. He also had to recover from a traumatic episode upon his arrival in Lille. Indeed, on August 8, an individual had managed to enter the hotel room in the city center where Paulo Fonseca and his wife were staying. Jewels of great value, estimated at nearly 200,000 euros, were stolen. Good news for Fonseca, however, the thief was found and even sentenced to prison.
Paulo Fonseca, the good news falls
Paulo Fonseca explaining why he used 3-4-2-1 at Roma: “On the offensive side, it’s exactly the same thing, what changes is in the defensive phase. When you play against a team that attacks at 5 it is difficult to contain them with a defense at 4. pic.twitter.com/Kx6ZDZATWg

According to information reported by The voice of the North, the police succeeded in carrying out their investigation to find the individual. The video surveillance images of the Lille palace were successfully exploited and made it possible to find the thief in the Paris region. Arrested by the police, the individual tried to get rid of part of the loot. Eventually, the Fonseca couple were able to recover some of their property. The other part having been probably sold, while a cash sum of 10,000 euros had been found at his home. Aged 40, he has a well-stocked criminal record since it includes 36 mentions… His judgment was pronounced at the end of the week and he was sentenced to 30 months in prison, including 6 months on probation. This is what certainly allow Paulo Fonseca and his companion to be able to start again on new bases. The 49-year-old coach will have a lot of work to put LOSC back at the top of the league table in Ligue 1. After 7 championship days, the Mastiffs are in seventh place with 10 units.
