The match Hoger-Op Veltem – KSC Grimbergen had been going on for less than fifteen minutes when player Nabil Toufik landed. Supporters and team members saw a shock go through the man’s body, coming from an internal defibrillator. He may have narrowly escaped cardiac arrest. “Fortunately, the device did its job, but it was a bit of a shock,” says Filip Demessemakers, representative of the team. He was standing 50 meters away when it happened, and now knows that the player is stable. He remained conscious during the shock.
Although his teammates were deeply impressed by the incident, they decided to resume the game after 38 minutes. Most also appeared to be unaware that their teammate had a built-in defibrillator. The player was transferred to UZ Leuven for control.
