The race is planned on the same track where the Formula One (F-1) stage was once held, the “Buddh International Circuit” track in Greater Noida, which is located south of New Delhi.

The track hosted F-1 competitions from 2011 to 2013.

“We have a lot of fans in India and we are happy to be able to introduce them to the sport,” says Carmelo Espeleta, CEO of Dorna, the commercial rights owner of the championship.

India is the biggest possible market expansion opportunity for the sport, organizers say, recalling that the country’s population is 1.4 billion people and they own more than 200 million motorcycles.

Indian authorities hope the competition will encourage foreign investment.

At the moment, the schedule for the next season of “MotoGP” is not yet clear, but it is expected that at least 20 rounds will be held.
