Joshua Kimmich is without a doubt one of the most important pillars of the team at FC Bayern and his coach Julian Nagelsmann. After a somewhat mixed phase in the first half of the past season, the 27-year-old is currently approaching his top form again. According to Nagelsmann, Bayern’s midfield boss has taken another step forward in his development.
In Milan’s San Siro, Kimmich conducted like in the best of times. He threw himself into every duel and seems to be able to get back to his top form just in time for the start of the English weeks. As far as his performance is concerned, Nagelsmann was very satisfied. It is clear to him that Kimmich will get even better and that the end of the road has not yet been reached.
“He’s very ambitious, so he’ll keep improving”
At the press conference ahead of today’s Bundesliga game against Stuttgart, the Bayern coach was generally very satisfied with his options for central midfield. In addition to Kimmich, Gravenberch and Sabitzer, Leon Goretzka is now available again. Nevertheless, he allowed himself to be carried away to a special praise for his leader: “Kimmich has taken another step. He’s very ambitious, so he’ll keep improving,” enthused the 35-year-old.
He also defended the small form slump of the last season and explained: “I think that he has developed well. Last year he was in, in my opinion, too deep a position. He has a very good offensive position. You have to leave out the last season a bit, with everything that came his way. Even with the criticism that has also been given at the political level. Last year’s season was even good given the circumstances, others would have taken it less well,” stressed Nagelsmann and looked ahead. “This year it’s even more stable.” In view of the tight schedule, Kimmich’s performance increase should come at the right time.
