How to qualify in badminton for Paris 2024. The Olympic Games qualification system explained

How many athletes will compete in badminton at Paris 2024?

In total, they will be awarded 172 quota places for badminton competitions in the 2024 Paris Olympics: 86 for women and 86 for men. It is the same total as in Tokyo 2020.

For each gender, assign 83 quota places by direct qualification, one is reserved for the host country and two for Universality slots.

In men’s, women’s and mixed doubles, the same system applies, but the two quota places (for four athletes) are awarded to NOCs that have two or more couples ranked between 1 and 8.

What is the badminton qualification path for Paris 2024?

Las ‘Ranking Lists to Paris’ as of April 30, 2024 will be used to allocate quota places in the men’s and women’s singles events, as well as in the men’s, women’s and mixed doubles events.

Each list will be based on the results obtained between the May 1, 2023 and April 28, 2024.

  • Any other international event held by the BWF and included in advance and with the approval of the BWF as part of the World Ranking Lists

Qualification route for individual events

A total of 70 athletes they will qualify for the individual events via the BWF ‘Road to Paris Ranking List’: 35th in the men’s events and 35th in the women’s.
