At the weekend, the Westphalian association league teams JKG Siegerland, TV Paderborn and JST Herten, and thus the table places 1-3 in Paderborn met each other. The 9:1 against JST Herten was followed by a 5:5 draw against the host TV Paderborn, which couldn’t be surpassed in terms of tension. Thus, the local judoka not only stay at the top of the table, but they now have the championship within reach, with only one fight left against bottom-placed Kodokan Olsberg.

First you had to go against the current table second JST Herten on the mat and dismantled the opponent with 9:1. This put Herten out of the title race because they were also defeated by TV Paderborn 7:3. Julian Wessling opens the meeting of the JKG up to 81 kg. After two high scores for both fighters, the Siegerland gets stronger and wins with a foot throw. Heavyweight Marcell Meyer gets the second point, taking the lead early on with a shoulder throw. Paul Schreiber (-90 kg) loses because of a criminal offense. His brother Linus gets the third point with a shoulder fall. C (-66 kg) wins the decisive 4:1 in the first round with a foot technique. Without a change, it goes a bit better in the second round. All five get their points and spoil JST Herten’s title dreams.
This leads to a gripping showdown with the remaining championship competitor TV Paderborn for the lead in the table. Julian Wessling was seriously injured in the first encounter. Marcell Meyer also gives up the point with two high ratings. But the winning countries show morale and come back after the 0:2 deficit in the first round. Paul Schreiber gets the connection point up to 90 kg, Linus Schreiber wins with a lifter and Tohir Zarifbekov wins after three minutes with Harai-goshi. It’s 3:2 and Florin Müller comes on for the injured Julian Wessling. With three wins in a row, Florian Müller, Marcell Meyer and Paul Schreiber didn’t stand a chance, Paderborn was now 5:3 in front and already looked like the sure winner. But TV reckoned without Linus Schreiber and Tohir Zarifbekov. Linus wins after just 30 seconds, Tohir equalizes with a sickle technique and saves the lead with the 5:5 equalizer. Nevertheless, on September 11th it’s time to concentrate fully on Kodokan Olsberg at the bottom of the table. Because Paderborn is still breathing down the JKG’s neck, a slip could ruin the championship for the winning countries.
