Judo: the Pavia tribe honors Aude

the essential
In the wake of the Pavia, the Budo Club 11 never stops collecting charms and has a project for the future: social judo.

The 2021-2022 list of Budo 11

The story of the Pavia is unique in the world of judo. Arrived 25 years ago from a small village in the Oise, Virginie and her husband Richard have built an exceptional family of judokas. We can of course not mention Autumn first, bronze medalist at the London Olympics 10 years ago, today coach of the French junior judo team at Insep. Ten black belts in the family, the parents and their eight children with, in order: Adrien, Automne, Olympe, Virgile, Océane, Théodore, Théodène and Ulysse.

An exemplary career

Their career in this sport from the land of the rising sun is in every way exemplary. After being founded in the 90s, the Budo Club of Carcassonne expanded six years ago to become the Budo 11. Richard is the technical director and Adrien the sports director. It now shines in Carcassonne and Trèbes, whose mayor, Eric Ménassi, warmly welcomes it, and through six villages: Cavanac, Alairac, Cazilhac, Salsigne, Cuxac-Cabardès and Ventenac-Cabardès. It is also the only sports club that has maintained sports activities in these municipalities during the Covid period, outdoors and without physical contact. Over time, Budo has become the 1st club in Aude with just over 400 members, the 3rd in Occitania. He won titles and medals galore (read below). The club can also be proud of having trained a great hope of women’s judo, Dounia Nacer. The young woman is 11th in the world ranking, she was ranked 3rd at the Junior World Team Championships and was selected for the European Individual and Team Championships in mid-September in Prague. Alas, for lack of sufficient means, the Carcassonnaise, integrated into Insep de Paris during this return to school, had to join a club in the Ile-de-France.

The Pavia family does not want to stop there and a beautiful project is particularly close to their hearts, that of setting up a social dojo which could find asylum in the old Viguier crèche, occupying one part, the other being devoted to the Restos du Heart. To this end, an appointment must be made in the coming days with the municipality and a member of the French Judo Federation who, within the framework of the “1,000 dojos” operation, would participate financially in the development of premises. If the project is successful, this dojo could accommodate young and old from the Priority Neighborhoods of the City (QPV) at a lower cost. The National Police and firefighters also say they are interested in judo training. Up to 200 licensees could come to swell the ranks of Budo Club 11 even further.
