Peru had a spectacular second day of competition at the Lima 2022 Junior Pan American Cup, which took place at Videna Sports Center 3, obtaining four gold, six silver and three bronze medals. Javier Saavedra from Piura was one of the national judokas who climbed to the top of the podium by beating Benjamín Galarreta, who won the silver medal. “I really feel happy and excited because after so many ups and downs, I was able to get this gold medal that I dedicate especially to my coaches who insisted to keep going”, he said visibly excited.

Saavedra referred to the fact that he had fought for the gold medal with Benjamín Galarreta. “The final with Yuta is proof that Peruvian judo is at the top. There was no bet involved (laughs), I went out to have fun and do my best”.

And he added: “I have been in the national team for 3 years and they really train very hard, that is why in the end several medals have been achieved in this Pan American Cup. Honestly I am very happy with this gold medal. This medal is for my parents, grandparents, the Bobadilla family who always supports me and Judo Peru”.

Javier Saavedra confirmed his presence at the 2022 South American Games in Asunción, which will take place from October 1 to 15. “We are preparing to bring a lot of medals.”

The judo party continues on the weekend. On Saturday, September 17 and Sunday, September 18, the Lima 2022 Pan American Open will break fire at Polideportivo 3 de la Videna.
