As we know, the documentary on the Redeem Team which will be released soon on Netflix is not devoted to Kobe Bryant. But Kobe was so important in this redemptive adventure, that we are not surprised to see that the first striking extracts of the doc concern him. The one released on the networks on Saturday by the streaming platform really makes you want to dive into it.
We first see Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol talk about their relationship and the fact that Kobe went to visit his teammate and friend in the Olympic village. A tactic, of course, to lower the vigilance of the Spanish camp before the clash between the two teams. Then, even stronger, the testimonies of the Black Mamba teammates during this tournament, who recount their amazement when he announced to them that he was going to get into Gasol’s bacon on the first action of the match.
LeBron James recounts thus:
“Kobe told us he was going to set the tone and go straight into Pau’s fucking chest. We told him he was delusional and that was his teammate and he wasn’t going to do that. He did it on the first action of the match. We were in mode: holy shit! He just did that to his teammate? OK, there is no way we are losing this match”.
Pau Gasol confirm:
He hit me right in the chest. It was to send a message. Not just me, but his teammates. He wanted to tell them that I was his teammate, that we were close, but that he wasn’t interested in anything but winning.”
We can see testimonials from Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Carmelo Anthony around this sequence. Can’t wait for the entire documentary, which will be released on October 7 on Netflix.
