At the dawn of the start of the 2022/2023 Betclic Elite season, We Sport returns for you to the situation of the eighteen teams that make it up. Today, Heading West and the formation of Le Mans Sarthe Basket.
The balance sheet ofu Mans last season
An honest season but a completely missed last straight line. Long in the race for the playoffs, and even rather well positioned, Le Mans finally saw its season end earlier than expected. Worst record in the league in its last ten games with only two wins for eight defeats, the MSB was ejected from the top 8, finally ending the year with a neutral record, a small victory from Cholet (8e). A disappointment for a team that had not missed the playoffs since the 2016/2017 season.
[17-17]9e regular season, no playoffs
The movements of the off-season
Off-season rather calm on the movements at Le Mans, with few arrivals and departures for the Sarthe club. Nevertheless, the Manceaux have seen executives leave last season. Last year’s All-Stars Tayshawn Thomas and Scott Bamforth joined the Spanish and Australian leagues respectively, while former NBAers Darius Johnson-Odom and Dante Cunningham joined Romania and South Korea. Le Mans also parted with two hopefuls (Mienandi, Veraghe), even if it is only a loan for Hugo Mienandi.
In the arrivals department, Le Mans has bet on Marcus Gomis, who arrives from Caen, and the American Matt Morgan on the back lines. The latter arrives from the Turkish second division, where he won the league title and finished MVP of the Finals. Inside, the Tres Tinkle sniper will bring spacingwhile the young Josh Carlton, in view during the NBA Summer League, will discover Europe. Note that the MSB also offered his first professional contract to Mathias Van Den Beemt and recorded several extensions (Kajami-Keane, Lemar), including that of his coach Eric Delord.

Le Mans : Ambitions and ranking
Ninth last year, the MSB was unable to keep some of its best elements and will start the 2022/2023 financial year with a lot of uncertainty. Nevertheless, Eric Delord’s players must fight to find the playoffs, especially since the squad still has several quality players within it. Around Terry Tarpey and Williams Narace, All-Stars last season, Antares can vibrate and try to forget the disappointment of last season as quickly as possible.
Player to watch: Terry Tarpey
Following the departures, among others, of TaShawn Thomas and Scott Bamforth, Le Mans will have to find new leaders. Among those who may be brought to recover this role, Terry Tarpey serves as evidence. Second best evaluation of the MSB last season and selected in the All-Star Game, the Franco-American was already a key element of his team. Selected with France at the Eurobasket, with which he is the holder, he will start the coming season with a new status that he will have to assume within his club.
