Lions present their list of protected players

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Chosen Baseball Club revealed its list of protected, franchise and injured players, after making the annual reduction of its native reserve established in the official regulations of the Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic.

The Lions protected 36 pitchers, including Félix Bautista, Gerson Bautista, José López, Frankie Montás, Iván Nova, Enoli Paredes, Denyi Reyes, Víctor Santos and Enny Romero. Yainer Díaz, Pedro Severino and Austin Wells are among the 6 receivers protected by the Reds.

Starlin Castro, Willi Castro, Maikel Franco, Erik Gonzalez, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Eddys Leonard, Otto Lopez, Albert Pujols, Aderlin Rodriguez and Jordany Valdespin form part of the 22 infielders protected by the Menudos, while Franchy Cordero, Jasson Dominguez, Eloy Jimenez, Jimmy Paredes, Gregory Polanco and Julio Rodriguez comprise the group of 13 protected gardeners.

The Scarlets placed the franchise tag on pitchers Luis Castillo and Alexander Colomé, infielders Rafael Devers, Jorge Polanco and Carlos Santana, along with outfielders Starling Marte and Franmil Reyes.

Franchise players are those who have two or more tournaments without participating in the Dominican fall-winter circuit that do not count against the active player limit at any time during the 2022-23 tournament, unless they uniform.

Pitchers Kelvin González, Cristopher Molina, Anderson Severino and Felipe Tejeda were placed on the disabled list, as were infielders Stephen Alemais, Wander Franco and Francisco Urbáez. Also outfielders Michael Beltré and Steward Berroa.

Players who were not protected

Among the players not protected by the Lions is receiver Wilkin Castillo, who voluntarily retired and will play a role in the Chosen that will be announced in the coming hours.

Due to voluntary retirement, outfielders Gabriel Guerrero and Vance Vizcaíno, pitcher Francisco Liriano and infielder Osvaldo Duarte were also not protected.

Pitchers Diego Cordero, Edison Frías, Kendry Flores, Ramón García, Félix Jorge, Luis Pérez, Luis Reyes, Rafael Pineda and José Vélez were also released, as were utility player Eliezer Álvarez and patrolman Izzy Wilson.

The 2022-23 Lidom season starts on October 15, with the Leones receiving the Tigres del Licey at the Quisqueya stadium.
