Mexico fifth place in the AmeriCup 2022

Despite the fact that the AmeriCup in Brazil came to an end despite the incredible matches that this competition left us, the great highlight is that Mexico was placed as the fifth best team in the tournament, which is why the Pan American Games in Santiago 2023 will be a reality .

The Ademeba (Mexican Basketball Sports Association) presented Omar Quintero as coach of the men’s senior team in 2021 and from there he has given a new face to the warriors; The spirit in the locker room revived in addition to the illusion of representing the country in a World Cup once again being a more than priority objective. Without forgetting that he has already qualified them for the Pan American Games and has full confidence that he will be in the 2023 FIBA World Cup thanks to the fact that he qualified them for the second round of the FIBA Americas qualifier after finishing second in Group D with a record of four wins and two losses. “The boys have a different mentality, nothing happens in our heads other than being in the World Cup. We know we have the talent and quality to go to the World Cup. We are going to be in those three places that are what they give us in our group”declared coach Omar Quintero.

Recounting how Mexico has fared in the largest multidisciplinary event on the American continent, the greatest achievement has been three silver medals in 1967, 1991 and 2011; in the latter they fell against Puerto Rico by a score of 67-85. In addition, they have a bronze medal obtained in 1983.

In the last two Pan American Games, the Aztecs did not have a good taste in their mouths since in Toronto 2015 they shared a group with Canada, the Dominican Republic and Argentina, which caused them to finish last in the group because they were defeated on all three occasions. At the end of the tournament they were in eighth.

In Lima 2019 they said goodbye with a seventh place after two defeats against the Dominican Republic and Uruguay, along with two victories against the Virgin Islands and, surprisingly, Argentina.
