MLB: National League Game Summary, Wednesday, September 28, 2022

A sparkling performance from Eduardo Escobar helped the New York Mets to a 5-4 win over the Miami Marlins in 10e round and regain exclusive first place in the National League East Division.

After driving in all four runs for the Mets in the first nine innings, Escobar decided to finish the job himself with a game-winning single in 10e round to end the match. Escobar hit three hits, including his 20e homer of the season, and finished the game with five RBIs.

In the Marlins’ camp, Quebecer Charles Leblanc hit a hit and scored two runs. His batting average now stands at .282 this season.

Like Tuesday night’s game, the Mets started off on the wrong foot and let the Marlins build a 4-0 lead. Bryan De La Cruz kicked off hostilities in 4e inning when he hit his 12th homer of the season to open the scoring.

Miami then added a point in 6e inning on a sacrifice fly from JJ Bleday, before increasing their lead to four points thanks to a double from Brian Anderson in 7e sleeve. Leblanc scored his second run of the game on that Anderson hit.

Then the Mets offense finally came to life late in the 7e sleeve. Escobar drove in his first runs of the game with a two-run homer to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Back at bat the next inning, Escobar hit a single that drove in two more runs to tie the game and eventually force an extra inning.

Escobar played heroes with two men on the trails in 10e inning by hitting a single that pushed Francisco Lindor to the plate.

The next three games for the Mets will be crucial to the championship race in their division, as they face the Braves, with whom they are in the midst of a battle. Atlanta also lost its Wednesday game by a score of 3-2 against the Nationals.

Moreover, if the Mets win only one of their three meetings against the Braves, they will hold the break in the event of a tie at the end of the season.
