Every Sunday, the editorial staff of TDActu offers you an update on university players. Who performed well and who disappointed? Here is a weekly focused on the individual performances of future NFL players. Only players eligible for the 2023 draft are listed here.
On the program for week 2 of college football of 82 games, a first test for Bryce Young and Alabama at the Texas Longhorns. Will Tennessee get revenge against Pittsburgh? The first duels of the SEC conference with a duel of quarterbacks projected in the 1st round, Will Levis of Kentucky against Anthony Richardson of Florida. Finally, the Iowa Derby for the CyHawk Trophy entre Iowa et Iowa State.
quarterback of the week
This 2023 promotion is rich in quarterbacks. The opportunity to focus on a player in this position.
Sam Hartman (QB, Wake Forest) : 18/27, 300 yards, 4 touchdowns
Absent in week 1 due to a non-football injury (blood clot in the collarbone), Sam Hartman was back this week. Admittedly, the opposition was not of quality because it was one of the worst teams in the SEC conference, Vanderbilt, who was in front.
But for his return, the Demon Deacon was unfazed by the pressure, throwing for 300 yards and 4 touchdowns. His connection with his favorite receiver, AT Perry, potential 1st draft pick, was not lost: 142 yards and a touchdown. He may not be listed as a top draft pick, but he may have an NFL future as a solid understudy. Even better.

Deprived of his number 1 receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba for the next 2 games, CJ Stroud found a new friend with Marvin Harrison Jr., son of the former Colts receiver, author of 3 touchdowns. His main competitor, Bryce Young, struggled despite tougher opposition but gave his team the victory.
Devin Leary is making up for his bad game in Week 1. The opposition was an FCS team, Charleston Southern, but he didn’t make any mistakes. He tied the college record for touchdowns by a single player with 6 touchdowns. Valuia Tagovailoa, brother of Tua, was almost perfect. He will have to confirm against a tougher opponent than Charlotte. Finally, despite the opposition within their reach, Cameron Rising et Dillon Gabriel have been effective. The 2 players used their playmakers well, which are mentioned later in this article.

Offensive Player of the Week
Deuce Vaughn (RB, Kansas State) : 24 courses, 145 yards, 2 touchdowns
If Bijan Robinson is for the moment undisputed to be the first running back drafted in 2023, the identity of the second is shared between several runners. Among them, Deuce Vaughn. Coming from a university that has produced players like Larry Brown, Darren Sproles and Jordy Nelson, the runner was a great help on the ground in a troubled pass attack. In addition to having 2 touchdowns, he also turned into a good blocker for his quarterback, Adrian Martinez. His ability to slip into the small spaces left by the defense is equally disconcerting.

Still on the ground, the Applachian State player Camerun Peoples undermined Texas A&M’s defense and contributed to his team’s upset. Sesame Robinson did well against one of the best defenses in the country, Alabama with a touchdown full of intelligence. Mohamed Ibrahim et Jalen Berger confirm their beautiful week 1.
Among the receivers, after Brant Kuithe in week 1, it is Dalton Kincaid who took over for Utah. If Southern Utah is not a strong opposition, its performance is noteworthy and could raise its rating next April. Jordan Addison confirms and has already scored 4 touchdowns in 2 games with his new team. Cedric Tillman et Zachary Franklin were decisive in their own way, the first gave his team the victory in overtime against Pittsburgh while the second made big plays to allow his team to stay in contact with Army. Defensive Player of the Week
Drew Sanders (LB, Arkansas) : 11 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 pass defended, 1 pressure
Former Alabama 5-Star Rookie (in 2020), Drew Sanders was drowned in a rotation of high quality, without ever being able to impose itself with the Crimson Tide. In 2022, he joined Arkansas to have playing time. Tall and very athletic, he shone with a thousand lights against South Carolina. A player with experience as a quarterback, tight-end as well as linebacker and defensive end in high school, this Texas native is an all-around football player. There is no doubt that on his diary, the date of October 1 is circled in red: that day, his Arkansas will receive Alabama!

If Texas A&M is one of the disappointments of the week, Antonio Johnson was much in demand. Despite some severe defensive pass interference late in the game, he performed as the leader of the Aggies defense. Under the eyes of several NFL scouts, Andre Carter shone. He showed good qualities of speed and caused several opposing faults. A name to watch for the first round.
Defensive tackles are in the spotlight. Calijah Kancey tormented the inside of the Tennessee offensive line with his speed. Author of 7 sacks in 2021, his progress seems limitless. Impressive on offense, the USC Trojans are also impressive on defense with Call Tuiplutu. Author of 4 tackles for loss, the defender forced a fumble which led to a touchdown which was canceled. Finally, Kentucky did not find the solution to contain Gervon Dexter. His interception, after a fumble forced by Brenton Cox Jr., had for a time given the momentum to the Gators. His good performance may have made him consolidate his place in the top 20 picks of the next draft.

Week 1 Quarterback, Anthony Richardson did not confirm this week against an opposition yet less raised than Utah, Kentucky. Also, he didn’t use his legs much with only 6 carries for 4 yards. The interception he launched at the end of the 3rd quarter for a pick six tipped the game in favor of the Wildcats.
Supposed to be a strength, Clemson’s defensive line fell short in their game against Division 2 Furman. The defense allowed 384 yards, including 19 first attempts. A player symbolizes this disappointment, Myles Murphy. The player has not made the slightest sack and could see his promised place in the top 10 of the draft being threatened.
If the entire defense disappointed on the Alabama side despite the victory, what about Jermaine Burton. Unable to stand out, he was only targeted 5 times, even releasing a ball. The defector from Georgia said he wants to make a season at more than 1,000 yards. So far, it’s gone badly. His competitor in the same position Quentin Johnston did little better with only 2 receptions for 22 yards against modest opposition. Already disappointing last week, he must do better if he wants to see his name heard in the first round.

Bonus of the week
An upset to finish with Big Ten team Nebraska losing at home to Sun Belt team Georgia Southern 45-42. This did not help the situation of Scott Frost, the coach of Nebraska. Apart from that, the interesting anecdote is that Nebraska paid their opponent $1.5 million to make the trip. This is common in the NCAA because universities in the Power of 5 pay universities from lower divisions (Group of 5 or FCS) so that they can play on their ground. In total, this can go up to fifteen million dollars in transactions throughout the country. These matches are often called the cupcakes games and sometimes, it does not necessarily smile on the favorite. The proof.
