It was an attack that rocked France’s women’s game. Aminata Diallo is said to have instructed four men to violently attack a team-mate because she wanted her regular place in midfield. Now the first arrests have been made.
FNine months after the attack on PSG player Kheira Hamraoui, France’s judiciary launched preliminary proceedings against a former teammate. As announced by the public prosecutor’s office in Versailles, Aminata Diallo is being investigated on suspicion of serious violence. It is currently in custody for the time being. A final decision on whether she will be held in custody as ordered by the investigating judge is still pending.
The midfielder of the French capital club Paris Saint-Germain, Hamraoui, claims to have been dragged out of her car by two hooded men and attacked with a metal pole in November. “I experienced an attack of incredible violence,” she told the newspaper “L’Équipe”. Shortly after the attack, fellow player Diallo was targeted by the investigation and was briefly in police custody.
This week, police arrested four men in the case. According to the public prosecutor’s office, they all indicated Diallo as the commissioner of the violent act. The professional player, who also plays in midfield, was concerned with taking the position of her teammate in upcoming matches.
Eric Abidal was also the focus of the investigation
Investigations were also launched against the four men. Diallo’s lawyer had previously stated that the player had nothing to do with the matter. PSG had not extended the contract with her that expired at the end of the previous season.
Shortly after the crime, former French international Eric Abidal also became the focus of the investigation. Because obviously Abidal maintains a closer relationship with the victim. Hamraoui was using a chip card registered to Abidal in her mobile phone at the time of the crime. Because the nature of the connection between Abidal and Hamraoui had not yet been clarified at the time, the public prosecutor also considered a criminal act. This seems to have ended with the arrest of the four men.
