It is done. The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) held last weekend the first meeting of its new Safeguarding Council, created last spring to ensure the safety and protection of the most vulnerable players. FIBA’s advisory body, chaired by Prince Feisal Al Hussein of Jordan (also a member of the IOC), met in hybrid mode from the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball, at the body’s headquarters in Switzerland. At the heart of the discussions, the new FIBA protection policy and the measures to be put in place to involve the basketball community more broadly. In addition to Feisal Al Hussein, the Protection Council is made up of the Slovak Danka Bartekova, also a member of the IOC, the President of FIBA Americas Carol Callan, the Spanish player of Senegalese origin Astou Ndour-Fall, the President of the Romanian Basketball Federation and FIBA Executive Committee member Carmen Tocala, American journalist Alan Abrahamson, and FIBA Director of Operations Patrick Mariller.
