Rory McIlroy admitted seeing the LIV Golf players at the top of the BMW PGA Championship standings gave him extra motivation as he headed into the final round at Wentworth.
Before Shane Lowry, Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm managed to block their way, Talor Gooch and Patrick Reed, two American players who left for the LIV, both pointed their noses at the top of the rankings at Wentworth during the last round.

Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Matt Fitzpatrick or Billy Horschel had explained before the tournament that these players should not have been allowed to play and the Northern Irishman admitted that seeing them among the first on Sunday had particularly motivated him.
“The classification at Wentworth last week around 2 p.m. on Sunday did not please me.” he confided in the preamble to the Italian Open this week. “It probably gave me and a few other guys in the standings some extra motivation to do better than -14.”
McIlroy also admitted that he couldn’t help but comment on the current circuit wars between LIV and historical circuits.
“It’s a strange time in golf, and hopefully over the next two years we can find solutions one way or another” did he declare.
“Today I am a golfer. I play golf. I may sometimes get too involved in the debate but I can’t help it because I really care about it.
