The Fossat. 92 players in the Roland-Cottes challenge

Resounding squares and discreet rolls of balls enlivened the frames drawn in front and behind the bowling alley, on the occasion of the Roland Cottes petanque challenge. And leads on leads, after five high-flying games to stick the cork, if some wanted to impress the gallery, all honored their friend who died in May 2019. Roland Cottes, renowned industrialist and renowned petanque player, left an indelible mark in the daily life in the village and the Pétanque de Haute Lèze (PHL) then created the challenge in its name in 2021. For this second edition, 92 players from all over the department but also from Haute-Garonne, Pyrénées-Orientales, Marseille and even Paris competed for the trophy.

Open to everyone, licensed or not, rigorous pointers or risky shooters, the scrum challenge gave everyone a chance. It was not luck but talent that put the winner on the top step of the podium, Gérard Lancien of Lavernose Lacasse, known here for having been coach of the Fossat Football Club. On the second step, we find Gilbert Lestrade, a retired mechanic from the town, followed by Kim Huynh, from Ramonville.

By presenting the trophy to the winner, Gilberte Cottes, widow of Roland, herself received from the hands of Friedrich Rives, president of the club, a special medal for her participation. “I would like to thank Gilberte for having made the effort to play today as I would like to thank all the participants who have made us friends by coming to tread the fossa sites but also all the volunteers who have prepared this beautiful day.”
