Held a week after the women’s on the same courses of Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche and the National, the Men’s Amateur World Team Championships are off to a very good start for the Blues. While their female counterparts only finished 11th, they were in contention for the title by the final day on Saturday morning. And their male colleagues are even better off since they are in the lead after the morning games of this first round.
Leaving at dawn this morning at the National Golf Course in Guyancourt, the men of Antoine Delon, the captain, started the competition perfectly, returning a score of -7 tied with Germany (GN) and Austria, which was playing in Saint -Last name.
The three in-form players
Martin Couvra, the youngest and last selected, returned the best tricolor card of the day with a score of 67 (-4). After a bogey on hole n°2, his only one of the day, Couvra returned an immaculate copy with three birdies and an eagle on hole n°9. Julien Sale the leader of the team played him -3 with 5 birdies and unfortunately a double bogey at 17. The third player Tom Vaillant also played well since he beat the course with a score of -2.
Having three players in the game is important for this competition since the two best cards are counted each day. Thursday, Antoine Delon’s men will play at Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche and will leave on the 10th, at 12:30 p.m., 12:41 p.m. and 12:52 p.m. Still in the company of the Americans (-6) and the Danes (-1). Friday the best will play in Saint-Nom and the winning team will be designated at the end of the 4th round on Saturday at the Golf National.
