Grande and Caro will carry the Peruvian flag on behalf of the delegation of nearly 400 national athletes who, according to the IPD, “will seek to place Peru at the top of the general medal table.”
The Peruvian delegation was bid farewell in a ceremony held at the National Stadium, where the president of the IPD, Máximo Pérez, the head of the Peruvian sports mission, Leyla Chihuán, and the director of the Legacy program, Carlos Salazar, also participated.
“It is an honor to be the flag bearer. To have this distinction is a source of pride, but here all the athletes are going to carry the flag, we are going to leave everything and the results will come,” Grande said.
Chihuán assured, for his part, that this is “an important event” and wished “the greatest success to each one” of the Peruvian athletes.
“We know that they are going to represent us in the best possible way. They are the present of the national sport and the future is also assured. Good luck and the medals have to be much greater than the previous Games,” he said.
The president of the IPD also said that he is “sure” that national athletes will obtain “the results that Peru needs.”
“We are supporting them, we hope that they shine in all competitions and that their dreams come true. They are an example for children,” he concluded.
