Upon leaving Nike in 2013, Stephen Curry was not yet the superstar he is today. By committing to Under Armour, his sponsorship contract then amounted to four million dollars a year.
Nine years later, the agreement that binds the two parties until 2024 will allow the leader of the Warriors to touch 215 million dollars in total. At the end of this contract, Stephen Curry will then be 36 years old and will be much closer to the end than the beginning. But don’t count on Under Armor to let it go.
According to an indiscretion slipped into a portrait published in Rolling Stone, the American company is indeed about to offer a “lifetime” contract to Stephen Curry, the amount of which could reach one billion dollars! We talked about the same conditions for LeBron James with Nike.
All’s well That ends well
Such an agreement would be a nice turnaround for Under Armour, which almost lost its star player after delicate exchanges with the brand’s founder, Kevin Plank.
The quarrel began when Plank declared that Donald Trump, newly elected president of the United States, represented a real “asset” (“asset” in English) for the country, to which Stephen Curry replied that he was okay, provided you remove the “e” and the “t” from “asset”…
The point guard was then disappointed by the lack of commitment from the brand, hinting that he was ready to look elsewhere if there was no change.
“There was no real awareness of what needed to be done to properly handle a case like this. So, yeah, I got mad,” even cursed Stephen Curry.
Under Armor caught up by offering Stephen Curry to take the example of Jordan Brand to create “Curry Brand”, a brand within the brand born in 2020 with the Curry 8. It seems that the Warriors’ championship title in 2022 has ended to ease tensions between the two camps, now ready to unite “for life”…
